Luxury kitchens can embody unparalleled functionality and design. When outfitting a kitchen, natural stone is a versatile design element that adds a beautiful touch to every surface, from kitchen hoods to countertops. While the options are vast, natural stones like marble, travertine, and limestone can be expertly crafted into exquisite pieces that last a lifetime.
Kitchen Designs That Inspire
Each designer spotlight offers a stunning display of the unlimited design possibilities of natural stone.
Kristen Mullen - @kristinmullendesigns
Kristen Mullen Designs is an interior design firm based in Dallas, Texas. Principal Designer Kristin Mullen's design aesthetic is rooted in classic principles and leavened by a willingness to introduce modern elements and a touch of whimsy. Her priority is to create interior spaces that are as beautiful as they are livable..
"My vision for this project, and certainly the kitchen, was to incorporate layers of interest and texture through architectural antiques such as the beams, the quatrefoil window, and the custom hood," said Mullen.
"The range hood was inspired by a visit to an architectural antique dealer in the Netherlands. As you may know, Europeans and folks in the UK often retrofit fireplaces with furnaces or cookers for the kitchen. The fireplace I saw had the most beautiful shape that inspired this interpretation using limestone from MATERIAL."
"The most stunning piece of Calacatta Borghini stone tops the center island, and it pairs beautifully with the gorgeous tone-on-tone Tabarka Studio tile backsplash over the Ilve range."

Stephanie Ballard - @covetlivinginteriors
Stephanie Ballard of Covet Living Interiors, a Colorado-based design firm, offers a unique and layered design aesthetic. With experience working on both coasts, she brings an English Cottage meets Bohemian style to her projects. Ballard loves designing a good beach house on the Isle of Palms as much as designing a rustic cabin in the mountains.
In this featured kitchen, Ballard wanted to incorporate a timeless design element. "It needed to be handmade, with an artisan quality and an undulation and imperfection to it," she said.
"My kitchen is a smaller space with a low ceiling. But when light hits a tile like that, it sparkles, which I knew I wanted. Zellige has had a huge moment in the last few years, but this one was unlike any Zellige I had seen yet. Far more unique."
